Of the 68 players the Seahawks hosted at last weekend’s rookie minicamp, 57 were undrafted free agents and tryout players. While those players face an uphill batter to make the roster, it’s worth mentioning that several current and former Seahawks starters were undrafted players.

Which of those players left the best impression? According to 710 ESPN Seattle’s Brock Huard, it was wide receiver Terry Wright.

“I think one of the undrafted guys that shined a little bit – and the opportunity was there at wide receiver – was a slot receiver from Purdue named Terry Wright,” Huard said during his Blue 42 segment of Brock and Salk on Monday. “And he’s little; 5-11, 170 pounds, kind of like (seventh-round Seahawks draft pick) John Ursua. But with Ursua and with (fourth-round pick Greg) Jennings out with hamstring injuries, here comes the opportunity for you (as an undrafted rookie).

“He’s a junior college kid out of Memphis, who played two years at junior college, and he only played two years at Purdue. But at Purdue, guess what kind of system you come out of? One that understands space. Wright was a guy, from a try-out standpoint, who’s going to get an opportunity to push a little bit further.”

Of the 10 wide receivers at rookie camp, second-round pick D.K. Metcalf was, unsurprisingly, the standout of the bunch. But with Jennings and Ursua nursing hamstring injuries, several undrafted receivers got their chance to make an impression.  In addition to Wright, Seattle invited Mississippi’s Floyd Allen, Florida Atlantic’s Jovan Durante, Florida State’s Nyqwan Murray, Jackson State’s Daniel Williams, New Mexico’s Delane Hart-Johnson and Northwestern State’s Jazz Ferguson to the minicamp.

Huard answered a few more questions about rookie training camp during Blue 42. Listen to the full segment in the audio clip embedded above.
