Bradley suspended, now what?

May 3, 2011, 1:12 PM | Updated: 1:36 pm

Major League Baseball issued Milton Bradley a one-game suspension and undisclosed fine in wake of Bradley’s ejection from Saturday’s game against the Red Sox in Boston.

In that game, shortly after Bradley had recorded his first hit in over a week he took exception with a call at first base where Miguel Olivo was called out. Replays showed that Olivo was safe and apparently that is what Bradley saw as well as he argued the call from second base with second base umpire Gerry Davis. He was quickly ejected from the game.

After the game, as has been his policy for most of the season when it comes to all matters regarding Bradley, Eric Wedge kept his answer short when asked what happened. “I was out there arguing and when I was coming off he was yelling too and they got him,” he said. End of story.

It would have been the end of story had there not been a suspension. From what I have seen Wedge has wanted to keep the distractions at a minimum around and regarding Bradley. Bradley’s insistence on appealing this penalty is just that — a distraction. Maybe not for his team, but for him.

If he sits, it is tonight only. When the appeal can be heard has yet to be determined but it should come quickly. It is well within his right to have it heard but my guess is the Mariners would just assume move on. We may or may not hear more on the matter later this afternoon.
