Two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora was given permission to seek a trade according to Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network.
ESPN NFL insider John Clayton reported that the Seahawks were “one of the teams Umenyiora was interested in” a few weeks ago.
Umenyiora, 29, has two years left on his current contract and is scheduled to make approximately $3.5 million this season. The Giants are seeking a first-round draft pick in return for the disgruntled defensive end, though the asking price may be too much for the Seahawks to match.
According to NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora Umenyiora’s agent contacted several teams on Monday about trading for the two-time All-Pro, but most teams think the current asking price is too high.
If the Giants lower their asking price, the Seahawks, Patriots, Ravens and Falcons are a few possible suitors for Umenyiora, says La Canfora.
Umenyiora ended a one-day holdout and reported to Giants training camp on Saturday.
