By Brock Huard

After watching the M’s 2-hit debacle tonight, we have to talk football, and that is what we will do tomorrow on Brock and Salk. John Clayton will be aboard at 11:25 and then we will examine, from every angle, the Jake Heaps story. Jake told us a week ago he would make his decision in June and I would be shocked if he commits somewhere other than BYU or Washington.

We have Carson Palmer in at 12:10. Carson was a highly touted recruit out of Southern California (He earned 1997 Super Prep National 50, The Sporting News Top 100, Super Prep All-American, Prep Star Dream Team, Prep Star All-American, USA Today All-USA honorable mention, Super Prep All-Farwest, Prep Star All-Western Region Super 30 honors). He also decided on USC at a time when the program was influx, after posting 6-6 and 6-5 records in ’96 and ’97. Why did Carson stay close to home when the options were aplenty, and what did Carson see in a rebuilding USC program that influenced his decision? Lastly, Steve Sarkisian tutored Palmer his final two years at USC and we’ll get Carson’s input on the Dawg’s new head coach.

Jake Locker will join us at 1:10 from Oklahoma City where he is watching his girlfriend attempt to win a National Championship for the Husky Softball Team. Remember when he was the star recruit destined to turn around the UW program? We’ll ask him to look back at that decision, examine the program now three years after that commitment, and look ahead to 2009. Per NCAA rules we are not allowed to ask Jake about the other Jake, but the insight from #10 will be incredibly beneficial to our conversation.

Lastly, we will re-examine our interview with Heaps and present my case for Washington or BYU. Heaps is a bright kid with a football acumen that far surpasses the average high school quarterback. Ultimately, does he trust the UW will be able to recruit the talent to surround him? Can Sarkisian and the staff overcome the negative recruiting momentum if Heaps does indeed choose BYU? Does Heaps’ skill set fit BYU’s offensive scheme and conference more so than UW and the Pac 10? We’ll look at the big picture and present the small details, alongside Clayton, Locker and Carson Palmer. All aboard.

As an aside, how good is Heaps? Tough to tell from a highlight reel, but this is sure fun to watch…
