Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic examined in his blog on Tuesday the options the Cardinals have to upgrade their quarterback situation, which includes a trade for Philadelphia’s Kevin Kolb.

In Tuesday’s Blue 42, Brock Huard said that while Kolb would be better than Arizona’s current options, there isn’t much reason for Seahawks fans to be afraid of seeing him in a Cardinals uniform:

“It’s going to upgrade their team, obviously. Derek Anderson didn’t work. Max Hall was abysmal. They’ve got the young guy, (John) Skelton, that’s a good player from Fordham with some nice size but is certainly unproven.

“You go back and look at Kevin Kolb, if you didn’t know all the hype and the hysteria and everything else and you just looked at the byline, you just looked at the raw numbers of what he’s done in four years, he’s got a QB rating in four years of 73.2. He has started, in four years, seven games. He got beat out by Donovan McNabb. They drafted him in the second round to replace McNabb; it never happened. He got beat out by Michael Vick, and granted, Michael Vick is a different guy and an All-Pro and everything else. Those are two really good players. But those are the facts.

“He was the succession plan. He was to follow Donovan McNabb. And you would have thought if he was that guy and they loved him like Green Bay loved Aaron Rodgers, Michael Vick wouldn’t have come to Philadelphia and (Kolb) would be your quarterback. So he didn’t seize that moment and take control of it. His numbers haven’t been incredible. He’s had some woeful performances in just his seven starts and is 3-4 as a starter in those seven games.”

Kolb has 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in his four-year career. For comparison, his 73.2 career passer rating equals the 28th best rating NFL quarterbacks last season. He last started in Week 17 of 2010 when the Eagles had already clinched a playoff spot. He completed 18-of-36 passes for 162 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions in a loss to Dallas.

Brock also discussed what Cam Newton must do at his pro day. You can listen to Blue 42 here.
