The Mariners won 90 games and ended the longest playoff drought in the sport in 2022 and two of the most important pieces behind that feat may be taking home some hardware as a result.

As expected, Julio Rodríguez was named a finalist for American League Rookie of the Year while Scott Servais for the second year in a row is a finalist for American League Manager of the Year. Both awards are voted on by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Rodríguez, 21, was one of the best players in baseball in 2022 as the Mariners’ best player, slashing .284/.345/.509 with 28 home runs, 75 RBIs and 25 stolen bases in 132 games this past season. Rodriguez was worth 6 WAR, which was tied for 15th in baseball.

Rodríguez was the lone rookie to make the 2022 All-Star Game and he also finished second in the Home Run Derby. Should he win, he’d be the fifth player in Mariners history to win Rookie of the Year, joining Alvin Davis (1984), Kazuhiro Sazaki (2000), Ichiro Suzuki (2001) and Kyle Lewis (2020). Rodríguez has also been named the AL’s Most Outstanding Rookie by MLB players, AL Rookie of the Year by Sporting News and MLB’s Rookie of the Year by Baseball America.

The other two finalists for AL Rookie of the Year are Cleveland’s Steven Kwan and Baltimore’s Adley Rutschman.

For Servais, he finished second in AL Manager of the Year voting last year. And in 2022, he again guided his Mariners to a 90-win season, but this time was able to make the playoffs for the first time in his tenure. He has the second most managerial wins in franchise history.

The other two finalists for that award are Cleveland’s Terry Francona and Baltimore’s Brandon Hyde.

Rookie of the Year winners will be announced on Nov. 14 and Manager of the Year winners will be announced on Nov. 15, both of which will shown on MLB Network. Additionally, Rodríguez and catcher Cal Raleigh are finalists for the Silver Slugger Award at their respective positions, and winners there are announced Nov. 10.
