Quarterback, offensive line and defensive line are considered the biggest holes in the Seahawks roster.

That doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll spend their first pick to address one of those needs.

Danny O’Neil of The Seattle Times and Rob Rang of NFLDraftScout.com think Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith could be the Seahawks’ top choice in this week’s draft.

O’Neil joined Brock & Salk on Monday and gave his take on Smith.

O’Neil: “He is big, fast, press cover corner from Colorado that has questions about off field incidents. He’s been arrested twice while at Colorado for minor in possession of alcohol. There are some sorts of — I always hate to say character because you don’t really know the kid — but there are some citizenship concerns.

“I believe Seattle is going to see the size and speed that he has, believe in Pete Carroll’s ability to get the most out of a player, to think that that’s a worthwhile investment… I think he’s going to be a very strong consideration there.”

In his latest mock draft, Rang sends Smith to the Seahawks at No. 25.

Rang’s take: “The Seahawks gave up 31 touchdown passes last season, tied for third-worst in the NFL. Veteran Marcus Trufant is due $5.8 million for 2011 and has struggled with injury and consistency the past two seasons. Seattle’s other starter, Kelly Jennings, is a free agent and at 5-11, 180, isn’t an ideal fit in the Seahawks’ press scheme.

“Smith, on the other hand, at 6-2, 211, is an ideal fit. His character concerns will scare off many teams, but under general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll, the Seahawks have shown a willingness to gamble.”
