ESPN’s John Clayton thinks re-signing veteran wide receiver Brandon Stokley would make sense for the Seahawks.

“He’s the perfect slot guy. I think you try to bring him back. If he’s healthy enough and wants to come back — he’s a loyal guy — you would think he would be a good fit,” Clayton said Monday on the Kevin Calabro show. “When he was with Peyton Manning (in Indianapolis from 2003-’06), Peyton thought he was one of the best slot guys in the league. And that role is so important just to work the middle of the field.

“It’s not going to be a big (contract); he would just sign for the minimum. I think you bring him back.”

The Seahawks signed Stokley in September, two weeks after he was released by the Broncos. He became one of Seattle’s most productive receivers despite playing in only 11 games during the regular season, catching 31 passes for 354 yards.

Stokley caught a touchdown pass in both of the Seahawks’ playoff games and was the team’s leading receiver in each.

He turns 35 next month.
