Defensive end Red Bryant was one of the few bright spots in the Seahawks’ 23-17 loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

Bryant blocked a field goal and an extra point. He now has three blocked field goals this season, having stopped two attempts by the Cleveland Browns in Week 7.

“It just comes down to the 11 guys we got on the field-goal block team. That’s a play that we look for and making a play,” Bryant said. “We’re going to take every opportunity we get and today we came up big.”

But despite his impressive personal effort, the loss came hard for Bryant and his teammates, who were hoping for a win to start the team’s three-game home stand.

“It’s tough,” Bryant said. “You had an opportunity to take another step and I feel like we let it slip today. That’s just a sign of a young team in terms of you have to take advantage of your opportunities because you never know how many you’re going to get.”

Bryant also said that while the team has only a few days to prepare to face the Eagles on Thursday, it’s no excuse.

“If I’m not mistaken I believe they came up short today, so they’re going to be hungry for a win and we’ve got to make sure we’re hungry for one,” Bryant said. “So we’ll continue to focus and prepare and bounce back to be the team that I feel like can get a W.”

Up and down day for Browner

Cornerback Brandon Browner had an interception, although that likely will be overshadowed by his penalties.

Browner was flagged three times — once for unnecessary roughness, once for defensive holding, and once for pass interference, the latter declined because the play resulted in a touchdown.

The Seahawks totaled nine penalties in the game, costing them 91 yards. The team was penalized 13 times in each of the last two games and now has 105 penalties on the season.

“That’s what’s difficult right now,” Carroll said. “The next thing is that we have to sit guys down, probably. Let other guys play. Maybe the level of play goes down but those errors don’t happen again. That’s something we have to deal with.

“At this point of the season it’s hard; we had our guys that we’re going with not making the right choices. We have to collect ourselves and get it down.”

Injury notes

The Seahawks suffered a number of injuries on Sunday, most notably to the wide receivers.

WR Sidney Rice left the game with a head injury, although Carroll could not confirm whether or not it was a concussion. Rice also sustained a concussion two weeks ago against the Ravens. He missed two practices last week with a sore foot.

WR Mike Williams suffered a shoulder injury and did not return to the game. “Mike got banged up a bit, and I wanted to see [Ben] Obomanu play,” Carroll said. “I wanted to see what he would do in this game if we gave him some more chances.”

WR Doug Baldwin also took a blow to the shoulder, but there were no further updates to his status.

LB David Hawthorne suffered a knee injury, LB Leroy Hill a foot injury.
