Re-signing David Hawthorne didn’t fit Seahawks’ M.O.

David Hawthorne appeared likely to return to the Seahawks when Detroit and New Orleans — the only two teams to show serious interest in the unrestricted free agent — signed other middle linebackers instead.

In that sense, Hawthorne’s five-year deal with the Saints — which the team announced Tuesday — was somewhat unexpected.

But as Brock Huard explains in Wednesday’s Wrap Up video, Hawthorne’s departure isn’t surprising given the approach that coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider have taken to building Seattle’s defense.
