RENTON — Chris Clemons was absent from the first day of the Seahawks’ mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, and a surprised Pete Carroll says he doesn’t expect the defensive end to show up for the final two days, either.

Carroll told 710 ESPN Seattle last week that he had spoken with Clemons, who said he would attend this week’s minicamp after skipping part of the team’s voluntary offseason worouts. But Carroll said Tuesday that he had just received word from Clemons’ representatives that he wouldn’t attend.

“It doesn’t look like he’s going to show up for the rest of camp,” Carroll said.

Carroll confirmed that Clemons’ absence is contract related. He said he’s had several “amicable” conversations with Clemons and his agent, Donal Henderson, and called Clemons’ situation a priority.

Clemons, 30, is scheduled to make about $4 million in the final year of his contract. He has led the Seahawks in sacks with 11 in each of the last two seasons.

According to ESPN’s John Clayton, Clemons would be subject to more than $60,000 in fines for missing all three days of the minicamp.
