The Seahawks may have the top-rated defense in the NFL, but they’re not getting much love from the rest of the league.
Safety Earl Thomas was the lone defensive player among five Seahawks – along with running back Marshawn Lynch, left tackle Russell Okung, center Max Unger and kick returner Leon Washington – named to the NFC Pro Bowl roster, the NFL announced Wednesday.
Okung and Unger will start at their respective positions after each was named to their first Pro Bowl. Lynch is listed as the backup running back behind the league’s leading rusher, Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings.
Washington will return kickoffs for the NFC team as Seattle’s lone special teams selection.
Eight other Seahawks were named alternates to the NFC roster: defensive end Chris Clemons, fullback Mike Robinson, cornerback Richard Sherman, safety Kam Chancellor, special teamer Heath Farwell, punter Jon Ryan, quarterback Russell Wilson and defensive tackle Brandon Mebane
If the Seahawks advance to the Super Bowl, the players will not participate in the annual All-Star game. The AFC-NFC Pro Bowl will be played on Jan. 27 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
