DT Damon ‘Snacks’ Harrison seeks release from Seahawks

The Seahawks are getting defensive tackle Bryan Mone back in Week 16, but going forward, it looks like they’ll be without another defensive tackle as Damon “Snacks” Harrison confirmed an NFL Network report that he was seeking a release from his contract.

Tom Pelissero reported Sunday morning that Harrison, who signed with the Seahawks earlier this season and spent time on the practice squad before he was activated, was set to be inactive for Week 16 against the Los Angeles Rams, and asked for his release as a result. Pelissero reports that Seattle hopes Harrison reconsiders, but that the team plans on releasing him next week. Harrison would then go on waivers.

Harrison confirmed the report Sunday morning, saying it was “time to move on,” but that he didn’t hold any animosity towards the Seahawks for the decision.

Harrison also gave a shoutout to some of his friends on the Seahawks before their key game against the Rams. If Seattle wins, it wins the NFC West for the first time since 2016.

Harrison, a 2016 First-Team All-Pro, appeared in six games for the Seahawks this year, playing anywhere from 18 to 30 snaps. He’s been a big, space-eating nose tackle for his entire career, and helped stuff runs like he has throughout his nine-year career. In those six games, Harrison recorded nine tackles and also forced a fumble.

Even with Mone back in the fold, the Seahawks don’t have a ton of depth at defensive tackle with Harrison on his way out of town. Mone will join Jarran Reed and Poona Ford as the Seahawks’ three lone defensive tackles. Bigger defensive ends like 2019 first-round pick L.J. Collier and Rasheem Green have also lined up at defensive tackle at times, and likely will continue to do so.
