Quarterback workouts show where Seahawks stand

If current trends hold, Seahawks fans who long ago grew tired of their team’s perceived lack of national respect won’t have much to complain about.

First, the Seahawks came in at No. 1 in ESPN’s power rankings last month, receiving first-place votes from three of the five panelists. Seattle had made three significant additions to a team that was seconds away from reaching the NFC title game last season, and it didn’t go unnoticed.

Now, the man who has helped orchestrate it all is receiving some due.

“John Schneider might be the most aggressive general manager in the NFL, and, in my estimation, no one has done a better job evaluating talent and manipulating the draft, trades and free agency since he took over the Seahawks in 2010,” writes Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com.

Schneider’s latest move was the trade that sent Matt Flynn to Oakland for a pair of draft picks. Doing so put the Seahawks in the market for a backup quarterback. To that end, they’re working out free agents Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn, Seneca Wallace and Tyler Thigpen at the team’s headquarters this week.

As Brock Huard explains in the video below, the nature of those workouts speaks further to what Schneider and coach Pete Carroll have built during their time in Seattle.
