The Seahawks will be without a number of key starters when they play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in Seattle. The team announced prior to the game that starting safety Jamal Adams, starting running back and starting defensive end Benson Mayowa are all out for the divisional tilt.

Seahawks activate Reed and Parkinson, recall 2 from PS, but not Harrison

Those three were all questionable to play with various injuries. For Adams, it will be the fourth game in a row that he has missed with a groin injury. It’s the first game that Carson (foot) and Mayowa (ankle) will miss with their current injuries. Those two were injured in last week’s loss in Arizona.

Joining those three on the Seahawks’ inactives list are a number of other key players.

Starting cornerback Shaquill Griffin was ruled out earlier this week with a hamstring injury and starting left guard Mike Iupati (back), starting nickel cornerback Ugo Amadi (hamstring) and backup running back Carlos Hyde (hamstring) are also out. All three were doubtful to play on this weekend’s injury report.

The good news for the Seahawks is that third-string running back Travis Homer (knee) and backup strong safety Ryan Neal (hamstring) will both play despite being listed as questionable on Friday. Homer and rookie DeeJay Dallas will assume the main rushing duties with Carson and Hyde out, while Neal will start in place of Adams for the fourth game in a row.

Replacing Griffin will be Tre Flowers, who started for the Seahawks the last two seasons. Jordan Simmons likely gets the start at left guard for Iupati, who is out for the third game in a row.

With Mayowa out, the Seahawks will likely lean on rookie Alton Robinson as well as Damontre Moore and Jonathan Bullard to rush the quarterback. Another player to watch is rookie Stephen Sullivan, who the Seahawks drafted as a tight end/wide receiver in the seventh round of April’s draft. He’s been practicing as a defensive end recently and was added to the game day roster from the practice squad.

With Amadi out, the Seahawks have a few options as far as nickel packages. The Seahawks could opt to play more base defense with three linebackers like they did last season, or use D.J. Reed, Jayson Stanley or Linden Stephens at that spot.

Reed played for the 49ers the last two seasons and was claimed off waivers by Seattle this offseason. He was activated off the non-football injured list on Saturday and added to the Seahawks’ 53-man roster.

The 49ers, like the Seahawks, enter the contest severely banged up. Many key defenders are either out for the season or are on injured reserve, and two of the team’s lead running backs are on injured reserve.

For Sunday’s contest, starting receiver Deebo Samuel, starting safety Jaquiski Tartt and starting linebacker Kwon Alexander are all out.
