RENTON – Red Bryant’s back.

That was a sore spot on Sunday when Seattle’s starting defensive lineman left the game in the second half.

Whether Bryant’s back this week is more of a hope for the Seahawks.

“He’s got muscle spasms,” coach Pete Carroll said Monday afternoon. “Usually those can get taken care of in about three or four days so he should be all right.”

The news is even more optimistic for receiver Jermaine Kearse, who left Sunday’s game with an ankle injury. Carroll said that while Kearse wore a plastic protective boot after suffering the injury, that was already unnecessary.

“He was trying to show us he was ready to go,” Carroll said. “So we’ll see what happens.”

Center Max Unger had an injury to one of his arms that bothered him during the game Sunday, but he returned to the field while right tackle Breno Giacomini was replaced by Michael Bowie early in the second half because the coaches felt Giacomini was laboring with a sore knee.

Seattle won’t release its first official injury report this week until after it practices Wednesday.

Clemons returns

Defensive end Chris Clemons was introduced with the starting defense on Sunday, but he played only in pass-rush situations on Sunday as he made his 2013 debut after returning from knee surgery.

Clemons was on the field for 13 snaps Sunday, had a pair of quarterback hits and will see his diet of plays increase this week in Houston.

“He got enough done that he’s in,” Carroll said of Clemons. “He’s playing. So this week, we’ll get more out of him, and he’ll be close to just normal I would imagine. He’s still going to feel new out there. He made some good progress there.”

Note

• LB Malcolm Smith was inactive for Sunday’s game, but not because he was too injured to play. Carroll said Smith had recovered sufficiently from a hamstring injury that he was healthy enough to play, but the decision had already been made in terms of the roster to start O’Brien Schofield in Smith’s place.

“Roster-wise, we had situated it to go the other way,” Carroll said.

Smith will be ready when the team practices Wednesday, Carroll said.

• Seattle signed OT Caylin Hauptmann off the Browns’ practice squad and placed LT Russell Okung on the injured reserve/designated to return list. Hauptmann, an undrafted rookie, played left tackle at Florida International.
