Another piece of the Seahawks’ Super Bowl run left Sunday, with free-agent cornerback Walter Thurmond agreeing to a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the New York Giants, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Thurmond, 26, was primarily used as a nickel cornerback with the Seahawks, though he started three games in place of injured starter Brandon Browner. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound former Oregon Duck is coming off a year where he made 24 tackles, one sack and his first NFL interception (which he returned 29 yards for a touchdown), but also served a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Thurmond was drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Seahawks and played 14 games his rookie season. He suffered a broken fibula and high ankle sprain on Oct. 24, 2011, however, and played in just eight games combined in 2011 and 2012.

He could find himself in a starting role in New York, something that might have been increasingly difficult in Seattle considering the emergence of Jeremy Lane and Byron Maxwell late in 2013.
