RENTON – Not long after news broke Wednesday that Wisconsin’s head-coaching job had become vacant with Gary Andersen leaving for Oregon State, Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell was being mentioned as a potential replacement at his alma mater.
And not long after that, Bevell met with the media as he regularly does on Wednesdays. Bevell has been a head-coaching candidate in the NFL, but has coaching in college ever been of interest to him?
“Well, being a head coach some day is of interest to me,” he said after acknowledging that he hadn’t heard the news about the opening at Wisconsin. “I would say I have thought about college. I don’t know exactly at this point where it would be or what it would be, but I do feel like I want to be a head coach someday.”
Bevell has reportedly been a candidate for multiple NFL head-coaching positions in each of the past two offseasons. He was a four-year starter at quarterback for Wisconsin from 1992-95.
