When the Seahawks travel south for a crucial NFC West showdown against the undefeated San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, they may have their newest weapon ready to go.

Huard: Seahawks’ addition of Josh Gordon sent message to Metcalf

The Seahawks recently acquired former Browns and Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon, and the one-time All-Pro has a shot to play Monday night.

Gordon started the season with the New England Patriots but was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. Soon after, Gordon was cut – a necessity because he had been placed on IR with a minor injury designation and had returned to health – and Seattle snagged him off waivers.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll joined KIRO Radio 97.3 FM’s Dori Monson for the weekly Pete Carroll Show on Friday, and he said Gordon has impressed in his brief time with the Seahawks (his first practice with the team was Thursday).

In talking to some of Gordon’s former coaches across the league, Carroll said the receiver’s talent comes with high praise.

“Just in our first look yesterday and again today, you can see that he’s really got a lot of ability and he’s very comfortable with the game. He learns pretty well,” Carroll said.

In addition to learning Seattle’s offense in practice, Gordon will also show if he’s healthy enough to get on the field Monday. Carroll said there’s a chance Gordon suits up against the 49ers.

“We’ll go all the way to the end of preparation, take it all the way to Monday and figure out what’s best for us,” Carroll said. “It’s a really good first impression he made and I think our fans are going to be excited to see him play when he can contribute.”

Seahawks healthier than they seem

Despite having 13 players on the Seahawks’ official injury report on Thursday, Carroll said the team is pretty healthy overall.

“We’re actually in pretty good shape,” Carroll told Monson. “We’re very fortunate this time. We’re going to have some guys that won’t be able to be active in the game who will be healthy.”

Of those 13 players, only three actually sat out of practice – left tackle Duane Brown (biceps and knee), center Joey Hunt (hip) and defensive end Jadeveon Clowney (toe and knee). The other 10 were limited participants, and linebacker Bobby Wagner, wide receiver Tyler Lockett and running back Chris Carson had non-injury designations.

Carroll and the Seahawks were able to rest some guys who had “bumps and bruises” this week, and the team is in good shape for Monday’s game.
