Wyman’s Football 101: Seahawks LB K.J. Wright is ‘having his best year’

Sep 25, 2019, 12:45 PM

There are a lot of theories why the Seahawks came up short in their 33-27 loss to the Saints last Sunday.

None of them involve linebacker K.J. Wright.

Seahawks agree to trade TE Nick Vannett | Luke Willson reportedly returns

In this week’s edition of Football 101, Dave Wyman takes to the whiteboard to look at the various theories for Seattle’s loss to New Orleans, then explains the three big plays that he thinks added up to being the reason for the defeat.

But Wyman isn’t done after that. While those three big plays loomed large in Week 3, there are still a lot of positive things to look at from the game – especially when it comes to Wright.

The 30-year-old outside linebacker has 26 tackles and a pass defensed so far this season, and to the eyes of Wyman, the Seahawks’ radio color commentator and a former NFL linebacker himself, Wright is off to the best start of a season in his career.

Wyman draws up the play that resulted in that one pass defensed by Wright, an important third-down stop for Seattle on a pass attempt from New Orleans quarterback Teddy Bridgewater intended for Michael Thomas, who Wyman says has a case to be called the best wide receiver in the game. Watch that specific play here, and then check out Wyman’s explanation of it and why what Wright did was so special.

The Seahawks are back in action Sunday in Arizona to take on the Cardinals. Wyman will be on the call with play-by-play man Steve Raible on 710 ESPN Seattle and KIRO Radio 97.3 FM for the 1:05 p.m. kickoff. Coverage begins at 10 a.m. with the pregame show.
