Here’s another interesting subplot to what may not end up being a very interesting game: Baltimore has promoted former Seahawks wide receiver Chris Matthews from its practice squad ahead of Sunday’s game against Seattle.
Matthews – he of the 109-yard, one-touchdown breakout performance in Super Bowl XLIX – was waived by Seattle last month after making only four catches while playing sparingly over the first nine games. He landed on Baltimore’s practice squad after going unclaimed on waivers.
The Ravens have been decimated by injuries this season throughout their roster but particularly at wide receiver, where five players have been placed on injured reserve. A sixth, Marlon Brown, is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against Seattle, which may have been a factor in Matthews’ call-up on Saturday.
Here’s a recent story from the Ravens’ website on Matthews, which includes some thoughts from Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and Ravens coach John Harbaugh.
