Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is a generally positive guy, but you may never hear him laugh as genuinely as when he hears this clip from his former boss, Jerry Burns.
Here’s a link to a video of the uncensored rant.
“I’ll never forget that night,” Carroll said between laughs during his appearance on “Brock and Salk” on Monday. “He invented putting F-bombs in the middle of words.”
Carroll was treated to a meeting with former Vikings coaches Burns and Bud Grant, who were in attendance at Sunday’s Seahawks game in Minneapolis. Carroll was a defensive backs coach for Minnesota from 1985-89, during a period when both Burns and Grant spent time as the Vikings’ head coach.
“It was such a wonderful time,” Carroll recalled. “I was such a young punk on that staff. Those guys were so old, they had been around so long – everybody walked in slow motion in the building. Nobody was moving, they were just so slow and methodical and here I am just bouncing off the walls. Talk about yin and yang.”
Carroll said Grant teared up a bit during a pregame hug and that the pair enjoyed some laughs before the game. And then Burns walked onto the field.
“It was a great surprise because I didn’t think he was going to show,” Carroll said. “…They’ve been great followers, they’ve always been real supportive and stuff, but to be able to go over there and do that, that was pretty fun.”
