Second Half Optimism

Today on the show Kevin, Seattlepi.com writer Jim Moore and former beat writer John Peoples all cautiously painted an optimistic second half for the Mariners.
ESPN’s Baseball Analyst Buster Olney said that the Mariners have the easiest second half schedule in the division. The Mariners have a second half schedule that includes only 40 games against teams with over a .500 winning percentage.
Kevin commented on the Mariners hovering around .500, but said that it comes with its perks, saying, ““When you’re a .500 ballclub, you tend to do what–play the better teams at their level.” He also warned that being a .500 ballclub has a serious downside, saying, “.500 teams have a tendency to (also) play to the level, down to the level, of those teams that are bad.”
Peoples also warned about the brand of baseball the Mariners need to play, saying,“They(the Mariners) can’t be over-confident. They seem to be at their best when they’re scratching and clawing and fighting and biting, and fighting their way up hill.”
The Mariners kick off the second half against an under-achieving Cleveland Indians team and should be able to start the second half by claiming another series.
