Jemele Hill of ESPN.com joined Kevin today to talk about how Atlanta views the Michael Vick situation.
Hill talked about the love that the people of Atlanta still show Vick, saying,“Most of Atlanta still roots very strongly for Michael Vick, and a lot of them want to see him back in the league.” She also commented on how many fans in Atlanta want to see Vick do well even if it isn’t in an Atlanta Falcons uniform, saying,“They’re happy to see him back in the league, they want to see him do well. And if he ever plays back in the Georgia Dome again and returns home to play there in that stadium, I can tell you they will be cheering for him very loudly.”
Hill also talked about how there was a group of fans while Vick played in Atlanta who were more Vick fans than Falcons fans, saying,“Because Atlanta is kind of a transient city, you could definitely argue that the number of just purely Michael Vick fans outnumbered the real Falcon’s fans. And I think it kind of created this interesting sort of division, and a lot of those Michael Vick fans have not returned to the Falcons–they don’t go there(the Georgia Dome) to see them play anymore. They don’t root for them, they were strictly Michael Vick fans.” Hill also talked how some of those people have not let go of Vick’s departure yet. “There is still a faction of people who just aren’t going to get over the fact that Michael Vick is no longer playing(in Atlanta).”
Looking towards the future Hill talked about what she thinks will decide where Vick lands, saying,“The number one thing that will determine where he lands up, where he lands, is ability.” She also talked about what she thinks NFL owners will need to do to see if Vick will fit in their organization, saying,“Owners have to take the temperature of their respective fan bases to see what kind of reaction he might get.”
Hill wrote a piece on the very topic of how people feel about Vick in Atlanta back in May. You can read it below.
