Chiefs favored?! The Go 2 Guy begs to differ

The Go 2 Guy thinks the Chiefs won’t be celebrating after Sunday.

By Jim Moore

If you ever read any of my Seattle Post-Intelligencer columns, you knew that you could count on me for insight and analysis you couldn’t get anywhere else. Never mind that the insight and analysis was oftentimes flimsy and otherwise useless – it was unique in the marketplace.

The columns were always thought-provoking even if the only thought they provoked was: “How did this hack get his job?”

I hope to continue this tradition at MyNorthwest.com with columns such as this one that I’ll write on a once-in-awhile basis. I think that Brady Henderson, the editor of this website, would like regular contributions from the Go 2 Guy, but what he doesn’t realize is that I’ve always had a work ethic that is not conducive to producing on a consistent basis.

As a self-professed slacker, I take grudge matches against workaholics very seriously. It bothers me no end that Brock and Salk post new story after new story on their blog, one after another, full of very pertinent information.

I’ve also heard that Brock posts videos of himself breaking down football plays and such, or so I’m told – I’ve never seen them, but I’ll bet they’re great. You can try, but you really can’t beat discussions about A gaps and cover-2 defenses; personally, I just can’t get enough of that stuff.

And fortunately I never have to go without him for very long – after five days of listening to Brock and his compound sentences with six-syllable words, I’m always thrilled to see him on my flat screen, breaking down yet another game with Mike Bellotti, telling me that he’s “enamored” with someone or something.

To this point in my life, I have never written or said that I’m “enamored” with anyone, but Brock uses that word all the time. Why is that? Couldn’t he simply say that he “likes” Andrew Luck? (And another thing, as a rookie broadcaster myself, I’m in no position to rip anyone else in this business, so I won’t, but I will say this… Mike Bellotti the broadcaster is a 38 1/2-point underdog to Mike Bellotti the coach.)

Anyway, when Henderson asked me what I was going to write about today, I told him “the Seahawks.” And he asked “what about the Seahawks?” And I said “I don’t know, but I’ll figure out something.” So here goes:

In my scouting report of the Chiefs-Seahawks game on Sunday at Qwest Field, I have come up with several reasons why oddsmakers have the wrong team favored. Kansas City, inexplicably, is a 1 1/2-point favorite.

1. The Chiefs are a miserable road team at 1-4, losing their last four away from Arrowhead Stadium. Remember their last road game? It was a complete debacle in Denver – they were blown out, and coach Todd Haley wouldn’t shake Josh McDaniels’ hand after the game, thinking the Broncos ran up the score. The Seahawks, plain and simple, even though they too lost in Denver, have a better team than the Broncos.

2. Qwest Field and the 12th man will neutralize the advantage that Kansas City has in the rushing game. I’m also guessing that Chris Clemons and Aaron Curry will have big afternoons rushing and harassing, if not sacking, Matt Cassel.

3. The Chiefs gave up 382 yards to Derek Anderson and his awful Cardinals last week. If Kansas City can yield chunks of yardage to Arizona, what pray tell can Matt Hasselbeck and the Seahawks rack up this week?

4. Speaking of Hasselbeck, the Seahawks’ offense has been potent the last two weeks and figures to be lights out again on Sunday. If they can find holes in the Saints secondary in New Orleans, surely they’ll find some in Kansas City’s here.

For those reasons, I guess you could say I’m enamored with the Seahawks’ chances to beat the Chiefs.
