RENTON – If there’s any doubt in the mind of Seahawks coach Pete Carroll about quarterback Russell Wilson’s status for Sunday’s game, he isn’t sharing it. As he did Monday, Carroll said Wednesday that Wilson is practicing – he was later listed as a full participant – and is still on track to play against the Jets despite his sprained MCL.
“He’s doing well,” Carroll said, smiling as he fielded several questions about Wilson’s status. “Really, he’s going along just like we’ve seen the last few weeks. He’s upbeat and feeling good and he’s worked really, really hard to do everything he can to be right, and he’s going to go. We’ll know more after today what he feels like.”
So, would Carroll be surprised if Wilson doesn’t play Sunday?
“Yeah, I would be surprised,” Carroll said. “He’s pretty determined to get this done.”
Earlier in the week, Carroll said he and general manager John Schneider had been discussing the possibility of bringing in another quarterback to reinforce the position in light of Wilson’s injury. Asked Wednesday if there’s any plan to bring in a quarterback for a workout, Carroll said there’s not “at this very moment.” Undrafted rookie Trevone Boykin is the other quarterback on Seattle’s active roster while Jake Heaps is on the practice squad.
Right guard Germain Ifedi and tight end Nick Vannett were both listed as limited participants Wednesday. The two rookies have yet to play this season due to high-ankle sprains, Vannett sustaining his in Seattle’s second preseason game while Ifedi’s came four days before the opener.
Rookie running back C.J. Prosise is still dealing with the hand injury that has kept him out of the last two games, though he was again listed as a full participant in Wednesday’s practice. Carroll previously noted the importance of Prosise returning now that Thomas Rawls will be out for a few weeks, but that may require him to play with a protective device on his injured hand, something he’s done in practice but has yet to do in a game while being inactive the last two.
Prosise was injured in Seattle’s opener. Asked when Prosise be at a point at which he doesn’t have to wear anything on his hand, Carroll said: “Really, not until it’s healed, and those are six-week processes. So likely he’ll have to wear something to protect him all the way through the six weeks, so we’re still a long ways away from that.”
Another rookie, defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson, is getting further examination on the hand injury that has forced him to wear a cast, Carroll said. He was inactive Sunday.
