$250 million Husky Stadium overhaul nearly complete

Jul 15, 2013, 1:52 PM | Updated: 3:51 pm

Work continues at a feverish pace as the grand reopening of the newly renovated Husky Stadium looms just 47 days away.

The stadium has been getting a complete overhaul since construction crews began the transformation in November, 2011.

The $250 million renovation includes removing the track, lowering the field and shifting it north about seven feet, optimizing sight lines, and moving the stands closer to the action.

The remodel also features the additions of luxury suites, patio suites, and a new Club Husky. Fans will also enjoy new permanent seats in the east end zone.

When it comes to comfort, seats in the 92-year-old stadium will have more leg room and aisles will be wider. The scoreboard will feature a bigger video screen. There will also be 20 percent more bathroom stalls, with women getting more than men.

The renovation also includes a new football operations building with locker rooms, weight rooms, and coaches offices integrated into the west end zone.

The field was recently installed, while construction continues on a new walkway over Montlake Boulevard that connects campus. The scoreboard and video screen are due to be installed soon, and landscaping and other finish work is all slated to be completed before the opening.

The newly renovated stadium opens Aug. 31 when the University of Washington hosts Boise State.
