Russell Wilson made a statement by staying in the game Sunday even after having a brontosaurus of a defensive lineman step on his heel, sending an entire city into convulsions.
Wilson sent a message about his toughness, and on Monday morning Seattle’s quarterback received a message in return.
“I texted him,” defensive end Cliff Avril said. “I was like, ‘Dude, I appreciate how tough you are.’ Because I’ve seen the replay and it looked bad.”
The full interview with Avril will air at 5 p.m. on Tuesday during “Danny, Dave and Moore,” and Avril made it clear just how grateful he was that Wilson stayed in the game after suffering the ankle injury.
“I definitely had to show him some appreciation right there,” Avril said, “because most guys would have came out. Most quarterbacks definitely would have came out.”
Wilson’s status will be a major focus the rest of this week though coach Pete Carroll said he had no doubts his quarterback would be able to play.
As for Sunday, Wilson’s ability to not just finish the game, but win it, spoke for itself, and on Monday Avril sent a text message to make sure Wilson knew just how much it meant.
“I’m like, ‘Man, you showed a lot of heart, and we’re definitely glad you’re one of our leaders,’ ” Avril said.
No word on whether Avril used emojis in his Tweet.
