FAIRFIELD, Con. (AP) — Robert O’Donnell picked off a pass by punter Carson Wilt and scored to help Sacred Heart pull away from Norfolk State for a 31-14 victory on Saturday.

The Pioneers forced Wilt to punt out of his own end zone with 6:32 to play and a low snap forced him to heave the ball down field. O’Donnell picked off the pass at the 5 and scored to cap the scoring.

Marquez McCray was 17 of 27 for 176 yards passing and put Sacred Heart (3-2) on the board first with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Kenneth Womack on the Pioneers’ first possession.

Norfolk State (0-5) answered on its first possession, marching 75 yards in 16 plays with Jordin Lennon punching it in from the 1 to tie the game at 7.

Jaylan Adams hit Ikeem Wright from 6 yards to pull the Spartans (0-5) even at 14 with 3:45 left in the first half, but Sam Renzi put Sacred Heart on top for good with a 34-yard field goal just before halftime.

Norfolk State ran 46 times for 212 yards, but the Spartans were blanked in the second half.

Malik Grant ran 24 times for 132 yards and a touchdown to lead Sacred Heart (3-2).
