The Seahawks had to trim their 90-man offseason roster in order to make room for their 10 draft picks and 13 rookie free agents. They did so by waiving center Drew Nowak and four others: running back Cameron Marshall, tight end Ronnie Shields, defensive end Josh Shirley and wide receiver Tyler Slavin.
Those moves were listed on the NFL’s transaction report.
Nowak, 26, began last season as Seattle’s starter but lost his job to Patrick Lewis in Week 6. He started two more games when Lewis was injured then was later waived and re-signed to Seattle’s practice squad.
The Seahawks signed Marshall to a futures contract in February but had a surplus of running backs after bringing back Christine Michael then drafting C.J. Prosise, Alex Collins and Zac Brooks.
Shirley spent part of his college career at Washington. He, Shields and Slavin were also signed to futures contracts.
