LISTEN:

The criticism of the Seattle Seahawks by Deadspin might take a backseat to one fan’s scathing breakdown of the 12th Man.

Zach the Seahawks fan lumped himself and his fellow 12s into three categories, all of which are undesirable in their own way.

Types of fans include: the “legions” of bandwagon fans who only come out when the team does well; die-hard fans who “seem to have been imported from whatever backwoods Southern bog recently flooded”; and fans who prefer the Seahawks to be bad, or at least under the football radar. Of course, the first two types of fans aren’t unique. It’s the third type that sets Seattle apart.

Former Seahawk linebacker Dave Wyman said the third type of fan exists. A lot of fans feel like they are part of the team, so much so that they worry about the upcoming game and don’t want to get too cocky.

They are people who are not so secretly longing for the days when the team wasn’t getting much attention, 710 ESPN Seattle’s Mike Salk explained. They are “football hipsters,” which “is the most pathetic thing I can think of, besides maybe the soccer hipsters,” the fan wrote.

But lifelong fans of the Hawks may very well look back on the past with longing: the days when players weren’t on the covers of video games or being criticized for their comments about bread and Gatorade. However, those days seem to be behind them, at least until fans get fed up with Russell Wilson’s squeaky clean behavior or if the team fumbles away another Super Bowl.

Now, fans have to come with terms with the idea that Seahawk players are more boisterous than they were in the past and they actually might get a stink eye for wearing a 12 jersey in another city.
