Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told “Brock and Salk” on Monday that quarterback Russell Wilson has a sprained ankle but expressed confidence that he’ll be available for next week’s game against Los Angeles.
“He got a sprained ankle and he’s got a little bit of swelling and he’ll make it through it,” Carroll said. “I mean, how could you think otherwise? He’s going to make it through it. But we have to take into account that it’s going to be hard, it’s going to be hard for him to practice and stuff like that, so we’ll have to do a few things here.”
Asked about the results of whatever MRI or X-ray Wilson had on his ankle, which he injured during the third quarter of Seattle’s season-opening win over Miami, Carroll said, “Yeah, he’s all fine there.” Asked if the injury is a high-ankle sprain, Carroll said, “There’s a little bit of everything but nothing’s very serious. He’s got a sprained ankle.”
Carroll said the Seahawks have already had initial discussions about possibly bringing in another quarterback. The only other quarterback on their roster is undrafted rookie Trevone Boykin.
“There will be conversations, yeah,” Carroll said. “We’re already talking.”
Wilson’s injury occurred when Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh inadvertently stepped on his heel, causing his foot to bend awkwardly. He remained in the game and led the Seahawks on a game-winning, fourth-quarter touchdown drive, though he was in obvious discomfort and his mobility was compromised to the point that Seattle had to adjust its play-calling to keep him in the pocket.
βItβs a little sore, but Iβll be alright with a little ice and a little prayer, some treatment,β Wilson said after the game.
On Monday, he tweeted what seemed like another indication that he’ll be able to play against the Rams.

Wilson has never missed a game or so much as a single practice over his first four seasons due to injury, though Carroll indicated that he may miss some practice time this week. He called Wilson’s pain tolerance “unbelievable.”
“He doesn’t care. He doesn’t care what it feels like,” Carroll said of Wilson. “He’s going to go anyway. It doesn’t matter what it is. He was banged up a couple years ago and you guys never even knew it, his teammates didn’t even know it. So he’s a stud.”
Some other injury notes from Carroll’s appearance with “Brock and Salk” on Monday:
β’ Carroll said he didn’t have any update on the status of right guard Germain Ifedi, who suffered a high-ankle sprain last week in practice. But earlier in the interview, Carroll indicated that J’Marcus Webb will again be the starter at right guard next week.
β’ Carroll said running back C.J. Prosise hurt his shoulder Sunday in addition to spraining his wrist: “He had a cast, so we couldn’t put the ball in his hands yesterday, but maybe by the end of this week we’re OK with that.”
β’ Carroll said Seattle decided to make cornerback Tharold Simon inactive Sunday because he was only a full participant in one practice last week due to a knee injury.
