Seahawks defensive back Brandon Browner is under investigation for an alleged assault of an acquaintance in the Los Angeles County city of Pomona, a police spokesperson confirmed Wednesday. He has not been charged or arrested.

Lt. Ron McDonald, a watch commander with the Pomona Police Department, told 710Sports.com that police were called Tuesday night following an altercation that occurred outside Browner’s home between Browner and the father of his girlfriend. Browner is alleged to have struck the man.

According to Lt. McDonald, Browner and his girlfriend’s father live close to each other. Lt. McDonald said the incident began when the father heard his daughter and Browner arguing over the phone then walked over to Browner’s house to confront him. An altercation between the two ensued in the driveway.

Lt. McDonald said there is no medical evidence that the man sustained a broken thumb during the altercation, despite what has been reported. The man refused medical attention at the scene.

Lt. McDonald said Browner left the scene before police arrived, and that as of Wednesday afternoon the department had still not been in contact with him.

Detectives will investigate the case further to determine if there’s enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant, Lt. McDonald said.

The incident was first reported by TMZ Sports.

Browner, 31, returned to the Seahawks this offseason on a one-year deal worth $760,000 – which is the league minimum for a player of his tenure – and no guaranteed money, which suggests that he isn’t a lock to make the team. Browner started at cornerback during his first stint with the Seahawks, from 2011-2013, but his potential role in Seattle’s defense is now something of a safety/linebacker hybrid.

Editor’s note: The initial version of this story mistakenly referred to the alleged victim as the father-in-law of Browner’s girlfriend. He is the woman’s father.
