Smith was a Pro Bowler for the first time, led the Seahawks to the playoffs and earned a three-year contract extension.
Smith joined Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk on Tuesday and had plenty to discuss, including what head coach Pete Carroll told him when he was named the Seahawks’ starting quarterback.
“He told me to be myself, he told me to be just exactly who I am, continue to work hard, don’t think about any of the outside noise and just focus on going out and proving myself and playing well, doing the right things for the team,” Smith recalled. “Coach Carroll is a great leader himself, so he doesn’t ask you to do too much. He just wants you to be yourself and just be exactly who you are.”
Smith had a lot to say about leadership, including where that comes from and why he personally flew out to work out with his receivers during the offseason.
Smith discussed leadership, the upcoming season, his competitive nature, what he learned from playing the San Francisco 49ers three times last year and much more during his sitdown interview with Brock and Salk on Tuesday.
