Wyman’s Football 101: How Seahawks had trouble defending trap play

Nov 6, 2018, 11:13 PM

The Seahawks’ defense may have held the Los Angeles Chargers’ offense to 19 points in last Sunday’s 25-17 loss, but it also allowed the Chargers to rack up a total of 11 explosive plays. One of those plays was a 21-yard run by running back Melvin Gordon from Los Angeles’ own 5-yard line in the third quarter.

Clayton: No need to doubt Russell Wilson after he was off in Week 9

That run was a trap play, and considering how the Seahawks defended it, they can expect to see more plays like it from their upcoming opponents.

In this week’s Football 101 video, former NFL linebacker and current Seahawks radio color commentator Dave Wyman breaks down what a trap play is, how the play gave Seattle trouble on Sunday, and why it personally brings back some bad memories for him.
