Jamal Adams and the Seahawks’ defense may just be getting started

The Seahawks’ defense had a promising showing in Week 1 of the season, thanks in no small part to new star safety Jamal Adams, but the 38-25 win over the Atlanta Falcons may have just been the tip of the iceberg.

3 Questions: Will Seahawks still air it out vs Pats’ strong secondary?

Former Seahawks safety Paul Moyer, who you can hear every Thursday night on 710 ESPN Seattle’s Hawks Live, talked to Bob, Dave and Moore about what he saw from the Seahawks’ revamped defense, and he’s encouraged because he believes the results were far from what the unit is capable of.

That especially goes for Adams, who stuffed the stat sheet in his first game with Seattle but also admitted after the game that his tackling wasn’t where he wanted it to be.

Moyer saw an electric debut but room for improvement from Adams, which should be scary for upcoming Seahawks opponents.

“They’re gonna be so much better because I don’t think he played his best game,” Moyer said of the defense and Adams. “Just his energy and he made a ton of plays, but he had two or three busts that they’re gonna get better at. That’s what makes me most excited about this defense.”

There were two things that jumped out to Moyer about Adams.

“I think a couple things that Jamal brings to the table, right off the bat, it’s just his enthusiasm for the game. … (Benson) Mayowa made the one sack and I just saw (Adams) get so excited and going nuts, and when leaders do that, then all the other guys feel like they can do it.”

And the other?

“It’s his motor. He just makes plays,” Moyer said, bringing up an example from a play early in the game. “… Right before (the Falcons’) first touchdown, he came off the edge and if he doesn’t hit the guy he would have scored pretty easily, and most guys couldn’t have even gotten there. So he does these little things that make other people’s mistakes not a mistake.

“With that being said, he was phenomenal and he can be better”

Moyer also talked about the play of Seattle’s cornerbacks, what he thinks Russell Wilson does better than anyone else in the NFL and much more. You can hear the full interview beginning at roughly the 6:45 mark in the podcast at this link or in the player below.
