Report: Seahawks bringing back former first-round pick Bruce Irvin

According to Jordan Schultz of ESPN, Seattle will be signing offensive tackle Cedirc Ogbuehi to a one-year deal worth a maximum of $3.3 million.

If Ogbuehi’s name seems somewhat familiar, it’s likely because he was a first-round draft pick back in 2015 by the Cincinnati Bengals after a good collegiate career at Texas A&M. During his final year of college, Ogbuehi was First-Team All-SEC and the Bengals selected him 21st overall.

Throughout his professional career, however, Ogbuehi has failed to live up to his lofty draft status.

Ogbuehi played in just five games his rookie season as he recovered from a knee injury and then he started 25 games total in 2016 and 2017. In 2018, he appeared in just two games, making no starts, and was a regular healthy scratch. The Bengals didn’t pick up his ftfh-year option, and he signed a one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars for 2019.

While in Jacksonville, Ogbuehi played in 14 games, but made no starts.

Ogbuehi appeared at left tackle as well as right tackle during his career with the Bengals, so he could either be signing to be left tackle Duane Brown’s backup or to compete with Brandon Shell, who ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported signed a two-year contract, at right tackle.

Seattle was expected to be pursuing offensive line help as starting right tackle Germain Ifedi (who played with Ogbuehi at Texas A&M) and starting left guard Mike Iupati are free agents and have yet to sign anywhere. Additionally, backup left tackle and occasional tight end/sixth lineman George Fant reportedly is signing with the New York Jets to be their starting left tackle.

Ogbuehi and Shell were reported to be signing with the Seahawks Wednesday, joining center/guard B.J. Finney, who reportedly agreed to a deal with Seattle on Tuesday.

Teams are not allowed to announce signings at this time per a league rule due to the coronavirus outbreak in the United States.
