Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed has been suspended for six games for a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy.

Clayton: What the Jarran Reed suspension means for Seahawks

Reed’s suspension was first reported by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The Seahawks confirmed it later Monday morning.

The suspension stems from a May 2017 incident, during which a woman reportedly claimed Reed assaulted her at a home in Bellevue.

“He had his appeal come back on Friday and it was denied,” Rapoport told NFL Network Monday morning. “He was not arrested, he was not charged, he was found culpable by the NFL.”

Reed addressed the suspension with an apology note on his Twitter account just after noon Monday.

Reed, 26, is entering the final year of his rookie deal with Seattle and enters the season as the team’s leading pass rusher following the trade of Frank Clark to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Seahawks selected Reed 49th overall in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Alabama. He has played all but two games in his three seasons with Seattle, starting 37 of those 46 contests, including all 31 games he has played since 2017. He had a breakout campaign in 2018, registering 10.5 sacks, 24 QB hits, 50 combined tackles and two fumble recoveries.

Reed will miss the first six weeks of the Seahawks’ 2019 season but will be allowed to play during the preseason and take part in training camp. He will be eligible to return to the active roster on Oct. 14, six days ahead of Seattle’s Week 7 game against the Baltimore Ravens.
