The Seahawks could use some help at the edge rusher position, and Texans DE Jadeveon Clowney’s days in Houston may be numbered. Could that be the perfect recipe for bringing the star pass rusher to Seattle?

Moore: A message for Seahawks fans who think Clowney is too risky

“Would I be excited about that? Yes, I would,” 710 ESPN Seattle’s Brock Huard said. “Would I be very anxious and nervous and be able to actually pull that trigger myself. Not so much.”

Clowney has yet to report to training camp, balking at the Texans’ franchise tax that would pay him almost $16 million in 2019. The alternative is a trade to a team in need of an edge rusher.

Enter the Seahawks.

“He would fit beautifully,” said Huard.

Huard sees Clowney as a good fit in nickel packages alongside fellow DE Ziggy Ansah. More than that, his versatility against the pass and run make him a perfect fit for a Seahawks defensive line in need of some help.

That being so, he also comes with a fair bit of risk, both in terms of his injury history and price tag.

Clayton: 7 Seahawks who need to step up in the preseason

“You already know that Ziggy [Ansah] is one you’re going to have to manage every single day to try to be there for 16 Sundays, and I think that will be a reach to now have another guy in that kind of situation,” Huard pointed out.

“That then leaves you zero flexibility to (re-sign) Jaran Reed — that would be putting a whole lot of eggs in just one basket,” he added.
