With quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and head coach Mike Holmgren inducted into the Seahawks Ring of Honor in back-to-back weeks this year, we look back at their finest hour, the 2005 Super Bowl season.

“On any given Sunday” is a familiar NFL mantra.

Of course anyone can beat anyone on an NFL Sunday, and it sure looked like it could be one of those days for the Seahawks as they traveled to Tennessee to play the Titans.

The Titans were 4-9 but with a $50 million balloon year left on his contract, this was to be the final home game for QB Steve McNair and the Seahawks had three injured defensive backs. McNair had his moments, but so too did Matt Hasselbeck.

With three touchdown passes, Hasselbeck rallied Seattle from a 10-point third quarter deficit to a hard fought 28-24 win for the Seahawks’ 10th in a row.

The streak happened without top receiver Darrell Jackson, who returned to catch the game winning touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. McNair threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough as the Seahawks clinched a first-round playoff bye and tied the 1984 team with 12 wins with two weeks to go in the season.

Up next was a highly anticipated game with Peyton Manning and the 13-1 Colts with the Seahawks looking to clinch homefield advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. Though the choice by Tony Dungy to rest some key players would take away a little luster, that was quickly overshadowed by a tragedy no one saw coming.
