Travis Feeney is the first Washington Husky to be selected in this year’s NFL Draft, the linebacker/safety prospect taken 220th overall in the sixth round by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
A lanky presence at 6 foot 4 and 226 pounds, Feeney turned heads at the draft combine with his impressive athleticism. His 40-inch vertical jump was tops among linebackers in Indianapolis, while his 4.50-second 40-yard dash and 10-foot, 10-inch broad jump were both second among LBs.

He had concerns attached to him, however, due to the list of injuries he suffered throughout his college career, the most recent of which resulted in sports hernia surgery that held him out of UW’s Pro Day last month. While he said he was roughly at “70 or 80 percent” at the combine due to the injury, making his numbers stand out even more, he still slid well into the back-end of the draft.
Feeney was quickly joined by teammate Dwayne Washington as UW players picked in the draft, the running back going to Detroit at 236th overall to join WSU lineman Joe Dahl as a Lions selection.
Arriving at Washington as a safety, Feeney was converted to linebacker and eventually stepped into the Buck pass-rushing role last season. He registered 17.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks in 2015 to earn a second-team All-Pac-12 honor.
A native of Richmond, Calif., Feeney is also the only former 710 ESPN Seattle intern in this year’s draft class – as far as we know.
