It doesn’t look like the Seahawks will be making any changes to their coaching staff. At least voluntarily.

NFL Draft expert Zierlein: Freaky defenders that fit Seahawks

Associate head coach Sean Desai has interviewed for multiple defensive coordiantor openings this offseason, so he could potentially be on the move after one season in Seattle.

But former NFL receiver Michael Bumpus thinks another Seahawks assistant coach could potentially be on the move, but he really hopes that doesn’t happen. He explained his thinking during Thursday’s Bump and Stacy on Seattle Sports 710 AM.

“I was fishing around the NFL, seeing what other teams are talking about, and we hear (Los Angeles Rams head coach) Sean McVay is looking for brand-new coaching staff, it seems like …” Bumpus said. “And it sounds like he wants to lean more into the run. Who do we get from the Los Angeles Rams? This guy Andy Dickerson.”

When the Seahawks hired Shane Waldron as offensive coordinator ahead of the 2021 season, Dickerson followed his former college teammate from LA to Seattle after serving as the Rams’ assistant offensive line coach for nine years.

In 2021, Dickerson was the Seahawks’ run game coordinator. After his first year in Seattle, Dickerson was promoted to offensive line coach for the 2022 season.

This past season, Dickerson coached an offensive line that played two rookies at both tackle spots in first-round pick Charles Cross and third-rounder Abraham Lucas.

“To start the season, this offense line was ranked 32nd by PFF (Pro Football Focus). They got to No. 14 and were as high as number 11 before the end of the season when they took a dip,” Bumpus said. “They were 63% in pass-block win rate – that’s No. 8 in the league. Andy Dickerson has 17 years of experience (in the NFL) … I’m looking at this situation and I’m saying what he helped do with this offensive line with two rookie tackles was special. These guys came in ranked 32nd and you got as high as No. 11. He knows what he’s doing.”

Because Dickerson knows what he’s doing, that makes him a logical target for McVay and the Rams, Bumpus said.

“If I am Sean McVay, I’m taking a strong look at Andy Dickerson and I’m saying, ‘How you like it over there? Do you want to come back to LA? I’ve got a spot for you (with) more responsibility,'” he said. “If we want this (Seahawks) offense to continue to go, to continue to improve, Andy Dickinson has been a big part of this. Yes, Shane Walton has been doing his thing, everyone else involved (is helping) … but it is all about the big boys up front. So I look at Andy Dickerson and I say you’ve got to keep this guy, man. He cannot bounce.”

In addition to a potential return to McVay’s staff, a number of teams are changing head coaches, which could open the door for Dickerson and other assistants around the league to leave their teams for bigger roles.
