RENTON – Bruce Irvin is expected to play Monday night against Washington after missing Seattle’s last game. And if coach Pete Carroll’s remarks on Saturday were any indication, he’ll play quite a bit.
“He had a great week. He looks great,” Carrol said. “He’ll be involved in a lot of ways so we’re excited and really happy for him. It’s been a long haul to get him back out here.”
Carroll spoke following Seattle’s final practice ahead of Monday night’s game, also saying that offensive tackle Alvin Bailey has been ruled out due to an oblique strain.
Bailey showed up on the injury report Thursday, and while he’s a backup, his absence is a notable one considering how Seattle may be inclined to use a third tackle with tight end Zach Miller not playing.
With Bailey out, undrafted rookie tackle Garry Gilliam is a candidate for more playing time on Monday, especially given his background as a tight end.
Irvin’s return to action is a step toward getting his season untracked. He played sparingly in the opener against Green Bay having recently returned following offseason hip surgery, committed a costly personal-foul penalty the next week in San Diego then missed the Broncos game due to what was first classified as a rib injury.
