SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Injuries continue to be a pain in the butt for Seattle.
In the case of cornerback Jeremy Lane, that is literally the case. Lane is inactive for Thursday’s game because of a strained glute, an injury that nagged over the course of the week.
The other change is that Lemuel Jeanpierre will start at center for Seattle ahead of Patrick Lewis with Max Unger still out.
Lane’s absence is significant, though. He is Seattle’s third cornerback, used when the Seahawks put five defensive backs on the field. He missed seven games earlier this season because of a strained groin he aggravated in the season opener. He was placed on the injured reserve with the designation to return. He has had a hard time staying healthy since he returned against the Giants. He played only special teams in Kansas City, and will now miss Thursday’s game against the 49ers.
Either Tharold Simon or Marcus Burley will serve as Seattle’s fifth defensive back in the nickel.
The other players who are inactive for Seattle: LB Kevin Pierre-Louis (shoulder), LB Allen Bradford, C Max Unger (ankle), DT Travian Robertson, TE Cooper Helfet (ankle) and TE RaShaun Allen.
The 49ers’ inactives: QB Josh Johnson, WR Bruce Ellington, WR Quinton Patton, CB Tramaine Brock, OT Anthony Davis, TE Vance McDonald, DL Glenn Dorsey.
