Seahawks promote WR Chris Matthews from practice squad
The Seahawks have signed wide receiver Chris Matthews off their practice squad, filling the vacant spot on their 53-man roster ahead of Sunday’s game against Philadelphia.
Matthews, a former CFL standout, signed with Seattle in February but was bothered by a hamstring injury during the offseason and didn’t make the team out of training camp. He has spent most of the regular season on Seattle’s practice squad.
Seattle is taking a relatively healthy roster to Philadelphia with only three players listed as either out, doubtful or questionable, and none of them are wide receivers. That means there’s no guarantee that Matthews is even active Sunday let alone sees the field.
Seattle had an open roster spot after waiving cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy, who was claimed by the Seahawks last week but failed his physical.
