As expected, Mariners catcher Jesus Montero received a 50-game suspension Monday for a violation of the MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. He will not appeal the suspension.
Montero, 23, was one of 13 players the MLB disciplined as part of its Biogenesis drug investigation.
“The Seattle Mariners are disappointed that Jesus Montero has violated the terms of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program,” the team said in a statement. “Our organization fully supports the Program and its efforts to eliminate performance-enhancing substances from our game.”
Shannon Drayer will have more on Montero’s suspension shortly. Earlier, Drayer looked at what a suspension would mean for Montero and the Mariners.
