Rookie wide receiver Paul Richardson left in the third quarter of Seattle’s win over Carolina Saturday night after injuring his knee. That injury is reportedly a torn ACL.
Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports 1 and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network both reported Sunday that Richardson tore his ACL, which would not only keep him out of the remainder of the playoffs but would also threaten his availability for the start of next season.
Richardson was injured while trying to haul in a deep pass. He writhed in pain while holding his left knee then eventually walked off the field after being tended to by Seattle’s training staff.
Afterward, coach Pete Carroll wasn’t sure about the extent of Richardson’s injury but said it was to the same knee “that he’s had worked on before”. Richardson missed the 2012 season in college after tearing his ACL.
Richardson, Seattle’s second-round pick, caught 29 passes for 271 yards and a touchdown during the regular season, coming on strong in the second half as he saw an increased role following the trade of Percy Harvin. Richardson had one catch for 21 yards on Saturday before his injury.
