The NFL announced on Tuesday that Bill Vinovich will be the referee for Super Bowl XLIX between Seattle and New England.
From the “for what it’s worth” department, Vinovich worked two other Seahawks games this season, a 26-20 overtime win over Denver in Week 3 and a 24-14 win over Philadelphia in Week 14.
The Seahawks were assessed a combined 15 penalties in those games compared to eight for their opponents. That 1.875/1 ratio was almost exactly the same as Seattle’s season ratio.
It’s worth noting that the seven-man Super Bowl crew is made up different officials from different crews, so Vinovich won’t be working with the same group that worked those other two Seahawks games this season.
