Moore: After Dunbar news, Seahawks could turn to these 2 cornerbacks

In light of the armed robbery incident in Florida involving Quinton Dunbar, the Seahawks would seem to be in the market for a free-agent cornerback.

Unless they feel confident enough in Tre Flowers starting at right cornerback again. But if that were the case, would they have traded for Dunbar in the first place?

And even if they feel like Flowers is passable at that position, would they still want to take a look at upgrading the nickel spot where Ugo Amadi is the leading candidate to play that position in 2020?

When free agency started, there were all kinds of cornerbacks available. It was one of the deepest positions. But now you’re mostly looking at scraps, players with flaws, aging players, players who would have been gobbled up by now if they were all that good.

There are two exceptions that the Seahawks should target: Darqueze Dennard and Logan Ryan.

For what it’s worth, Dennard is listed as the No. 4 free agent still available, regardless of position, by NFLTradeRumors.com.

Dennard, 28, had agreed to a three-year, $13.5 million deal with Jacksonville, but then the Jaguars issued a statement saying the two sides could not come to an agreement on final contract terms.

A first-round choice by the Bengals in 2014 out of Michigan State, Dennard played in the slot for Cincinnati last year but was expected to play on the outside for Jacksonville. So he has the versatility the Seahawks like, and GM John Schneider is known for bringing in free agents who were first-rounders in the past.

Dennard, who made $4.5 million in 2019, has three interceptions, 22 passes defenses, three sacks and two forced fumbles in 77 career games.

Ryan, 29, had four interceptions and 4.5 sacks for the Titans last year. Ranked No. 6 on NFLTradeRumors.com’s free-agent list, Ryan has been courted by the Jets and has said favorable things about the Jets but also said: “I’m completely open for business.”

If you’re not familiar with Ryan, you’ll remember this about him – he intercepted Tom Brady’s last pass with the Patriots, returning it for a pick six to clinch Tennessee’s playoff victory in New England last year.

Ryan, who played in the slot for Tennesseee, is said to be seeking a contract of $10 million a year after making $30 million in three years with the Titans.

Dennard is clearly more affordable, but Ryan might be a bit delusional looking for that kind of cash at this point in free agency. So perhaps he’s in play.

If the Seahawks cut Dunbar and his $3.25 million salary for 2020, they could get a little more room under the salary cap to help in a possible pursuit of another cornerback.
