On this week’s Mariners Insider Podcast we tackle the news of the week that MLB is getting close to presenting the MLBPA with a plan for starting the season, take a look at the 2020 Rangers as they get ready to move into a new ballpark, get tips on watching KBO baseball and hear from Mariners starter Justin Dunn.
Dipoto: Reports and discussions on MLB’s return are encouraging
The podcast starts with a look at the Jeff Passan report that a formal plan is about to be presented to the players and gets reaction from Jerry Dipoto who joined Danny and Gallant shortly after news broke.
Up next is long time Texas Rangers beat writer Evan Grant who not only gives us a look at the Rangers, but the current situation in Texas as the state starts to re-open. Grant was one of several Dallas Morning News writers who visited restaurants on day 1 of the reopen and it is interesting to hear about his experience and how he thought that might relate to baseball attempting to return. When baseball returns the Rangers will be playing in a new ballpark that one hitter in particular appears to be spooked by. Are other Rangers feeling the same way?
I also caught up with Justin Dunn, who is currently living with Jake Fraley and his family in Arizona. While we have been hearing that a number of Mariners have had trouble training without access to facilities, this has not been the case for Dunn and a number of young Mariners in the area who have found a place to work out. In addition to the physical work he has been able to do, Dunn has gone to work on the mental side of the game during the shutdown and, like many, has been taking in the Michael Jordan documentary on ESPN. He shares the perspective of a young athlete getting a bigger picture of Jordan than the stories he heard growing up.
My last guest, David Kim, is a longtime KBO fan who spent two years living in South Korea. He gives us the rundown on the ten-team league that plays in a country the size of Indiana. What should we watch for? Who should we watch? Kim gives us his insight.
